Intelligent antenna, what is it?

5 Aug 2021

Over the last decades, the evolution of services and alternatives for TV distribution has been quite disruptive. People have been able to adapt to this new situation thanks to the new telecommunication systems developed by companies such as Televes.

Today’s variety of services and ways of capturing, distributing and measuring radio and TV signals has brought about a greater range of devices and systems, even though this has provoked signal problems, interference and adaptability issues.

Due to this new more complex scenario, terrestrial antennas require specific technologies and features allowing for better performance in terms of signal reception and compatibility with other devices.

This is where the generation of intelligent antennas begins its journey. They benefit from the creativity, innovation and expertise of Televes. These factors make it possible to design and manufacture telecommunication solutions that fully meet the new requirements.

What are the main features of an intelligent antenna?

The main feature of current intelligent terrestrial antennas is their ability to remove any interference and to self-regulate according to reception conditions in order to improve the TV distribution quality to the household.

The technology used for the design of terrestrial antennas has evolved and is based on more efficient electronic integrated circuits, operating at the microwave frequency band.

Our TForce technology has been devised under this idea, representing the key element in the development of the new generation of our intelligent terrestrial antennas. The most relevant feature of TForce technology is that the constraints of silicon microchips can be left behind, with the incorporation of smaller and more efficient electronic components designed fully by Televes.

This intelligent antenna brings you a system featuring an extended dynamic range, along with a 27% signal increase that will allow you to fix problems related to output signal in areas where reception conditions are unfavourable. In that sense, TForce technology has opened the door to telecommunication solutions for demanding sectors such as energy, healthcare, automotive and aeronautics.

Ellipse: the most innovative intelligent antenna

Ellipse is the most recent release by Televes in the area of TV distribution. Changes in the spectrum resulting from the First and Second Digital Dividend – which condition and interfere with the DTT signal cut before 4g/5G bands – led to the need to develop an intelligent antenna that would offer better signal reception and better DTT signal.

This antenna stands out for its ability to remove any kind of interference such as those coming from 5G or 4G (known as LTE) networks.

The new generation of TForce microelectronics in Ellipse significantly improves the performance of BOSS Tech, and includes a SAW filter allowing to cut off the DTT signal at the 5G limit without affecting the channels bordering the spectrum in such band.

Apart from TForce technology, Ellipse antennas feature a BOSS Tech device allowing for the antenna to automatically self-regulate depending on the received signal.

In terms of design and mechanics, this intelligent antenna is built with the most innovative materials and systems designed to make its installation easier and to improve its lifespan and durability.

These features come along with an optimal C/N, allowing for signal quality to be preserved thanks to a very low noise figure. In addition, gain level is ideal because the built-in technology allows for automatic regulation according to the signal level.

Ellipse antennas have been designed to create a more efficient product with longer lifespan. You get all this with its energy-saving system in intelligent mode and with the quality of their materials, including a stainless and robust fastening system.

The most experienced technicians trust this type of intelligent antennas because their assembly and installation processes is very fast and, especially, because this product fixes the main issues experienced by users in dwellings or in isolated areas with poor signal reception.
