Digital transformation of the Spanish industry essentially lies in the so-called Connected Industry 4.0.
With this development, the physical and digital world blend together.
The use of new technologies and the adaptation of today’s industrial processes are essential to deal with
all the possibilities that may arise.
As a matter of fact, not only does Connected Industry 4.0 transform traditional manufacturing methods,
but also improves product distribution and storage, while creating an efficient and sustainable ecosystem
in which interactions among components, processes, staff and customers are optimized.
Televes Corporation has been investing in Connected Industry 4.0 for years in order to fully embrace it
and also in order for the main companies within de group – with professional synergies among them – to
start benefiting from their advantages.
One of the most recent success cases in this field is the Claudiia Project, an initiative led by Gamelsa,
which works along with the Automotive Technology Center of Galicia (CTAG) and two other companies
making up Televes Corporation: Arantia and Gainsa.
The Claudiia Project is an acronym that stands for "Collaborative Layer for Automation and Development
of Industrial Innovative Approach" in Spanish.
This R&D initiative started its journey back in 2019 and foresees that advanced digital technologies
will be implemented in today’s industrial developments.
Some of the technologies proposed initially are still conceptually innovative and revolutionary, such as
IoT, Big Data, computational design, collaborative robotics, automated guided vehicles (AGV), the
construction of digital twins or even Artificial Intelligence.
This project has the financial support of the programme Intelligent Factory developed by the Economy,
Employment and Industry Council of the Galician Government. Up to 2022, it benefited from a 9.94
million euro investment.
The most remarkable objectives are geared towards optimizing the production capacities of every
company participating in this project, and also towards creating highly-qualified jobs so as to bring the
best product to the customer based on its specifications.
Nowadays, some examples of the technologies proposed in the Claudiia Project are already visible.
These are high-value competitive strengths for the participating companies of Televes Corporation.
For Gamelsa – which takes the lead in this initiative –, it represents process digitization and the
implementation of advanced manufacturing for a better use of the resources.
This technological advance makes it easier to develop and launch products with great customization,
allowing us to adapt more quickly to the customers’ demands.
For this, they coined the term “hyper-flexible manufacturing”. This method will be a reality thanks to
the implementation of such new technologies in every production process.
Yet another important advance is brought by digital twins. This technology is designed to transform the
way we currently understand factories, as their features would allow to early detect issues in production
and workflows without affecting the normal operation pace.
With digital twins, you can assess the impact of the proposed technological changes on the different
systems, even before they are materialized, so fewer potential errors occur once implemented.
For Gamelsa, this is a decisive thrust to position the company as a benchmark in the meta-
transformation industry, as they adapt their factory and whole work system to the new trends proposed by Industry 4.0.
Over the course of the first quarter of 2022, some of the first outcomes of the Claudiia Project were
presented.
The greatest investment was especially made in the deployment of sensor networks, real-time data
collection, the creation of 4.0 interfaces designed to interact with customers, and also further new
solutions adapted to today’s trends.
Lorena Domínguez – project manager at Televes Corporation – was actually the professional in charge of
explaining the milestones reached within this initiative at Arantia.
Among others, we can highlight the creation of a service for data collection and intelligent processing
designed for production processes. It is also worth mentioning the management of different devices
involved in those processes, which has contributed to enhance efficiency and profitability in the factory.
David Gómez – project manager – also pointed out how important the partnership with CTAG is to
develop a digital-twin model that might be used as a point of reference in testing any improvement to be
implemented in a factory.
Lastly, Rafael Pardo – project manager at Televes Corporation – described the crucial role of Gainsa in the
implementation of a corporate-intelligence environment by means of a computing and network
infrastructure for IT/OT convergence.
The Claudiia Project illustrates perfectly the commitment of Televes Corporation to Industry 4.0 – and it’s
not the only one that the corporation has launched along those lines. In fact, it is the second proposal
supported by the Intelligent Factory project. The first one started in 2016 under the name of
CORP4FUTURE (creation, design, and development of new tools and solutions for the industry of the
future).
This initiative is based on the development of a new production model taking advantage of the enabling
technologies of Industry 4.0 so as to optimize and make the production model adaptable by developing
new features and solutions that will, eventually, drive the business model towards current demands in the
different markets.
