Celebrating World Television Day

1 Dec 2021

November 21st was the World Television Day, and at Televes Corporation we wanted to celebrate it with you. We have been part of the telecommunications sector for years, as our antennas have brought to many families all the stories that made them feel delighted, laugh and cry. It is a very special day for us and we are well aware that it would not have been possible without your trust. Today, we will go through the story of this day and our company.

Why is World Television Day celebrated?

World Television Day was proclaimed on November 21st of 1996 under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly. The aim of this celebration was to promote the diffusion of information to the general public, as it allows to bring attention to issues such as peace and economic development, and also makes it possible for the audience to discover different cultures. It was certainly a great success: nowadays, just about everyone has a TV at home to be  entertained or to stay up to date with news of all kinds from across the world in real time.

The evolution of TV

Even though nowadays the growth figures of this model of information and entertainment are being widely discussed, it is noteworthy to mention that TV has managed to adapt to the new reality it shares with the Internet. Some formats might lag behind, but the World TV Day upholds its ability to evolve and adapt. New protocols such as IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) reveal that there is still a long life ahead. Different format, same philosophical background of a modern and dynamic audiovisual model.

A snapshot of Televes Corporation

Televes was formed in a small workshop in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 1958, more than 60 years ago. Its initial goal was to offer support to the new TV broadcasts that had arrived just two years earlier by means of the first TV channel broadcasting in our country: Televisión Española (TVE). At the very beginning, only 10 employees worked at our small plant, and our business volume was around today’s 2500€.

A manual assembly chain was being shaped little by little, and would only produce seven units per day. It was the dawn of a sustained and progressive growth.

What had started as a small company has become a big Corporation made up of 11 international subsidiaries, with 20 industrial and service firms, more than 800 employees and 75 invention patents. We are also proud of delivering our products to more than 100 countries from all over the world.

The technological expertise acquired by developing products over these decades allows Televes Corporation to keep competing at an international scale offering the best products for broadcasting, distribution and measurements of TV signal. In addition, we have been able to diversify our business areas towards supplementary prospective markets such as: the Hospitality sector so hotels can benefit from a comprehensive telecommunications infrastructure to offer information and entertainment to their guests while the staff can control and manage the hotel services; the sector of public and industrial lighting networks offering luminaires that feature communication modules to be controlled remotely; the healthcare sector providing with technology aimed at advanced telecare systems; and also the emerging Smart City model in which the IoT node of the buildings plays the main role in collecting and sharing information about their performance.

Despite the years gone by and the evolution experienced, our objective has not changed at all. We are still seeking to offer you the best possible service so you can just sit back to have fun and be informed.

Taking the opportunity of the World Television Day, the whole team and people making up Televes Corporation would like to thank you for your trust and to let you know that we will be by your side in this journey wherever the evolution of TV leads us.
