Digital Transformation: the evolution of 50% of companies

Despite the negative impact of the pandemic on the socioeconomic area, the need to use digital tools so that many companies and organizations could continue to do business has shown how important and beneficial it is to embrace the Digital Transformation.

Connectivity and efficiency of data-network infrastructures have been playing a key role since 2020, as they have made it easier for companies and individuals to work from home and to have fluid communications. As for the healthcare and social services sectors, these two factors have favored the creation of digital processes with intelligent tools allowing them to keep delivering high-quality advanced health telecare services. This sector has also relied on digitization that reduce physical contact without neglecting the service.

 

Eye-opening facts about Digital Transformation

Company digitization has become a valuable asset for companies. This is reflected in the increase in investment items at companies that are well aware of digitizing as a mechanism to improve their activity’s efficiency and flexibility towards the incertitude of this context.

The Digital Transformation phenomenon is such that, according to research conducted by Salesforce, 70% of Spanish companies have invested in business digitization processes in order to downsize the impact of the pandemic.

The latest surveys conducted by the Spanish National Statistics Institute have revealed how important technology has become in both our society and the business field as a facilitator either to adapt to this new normality or to go deeper into the 4.0 Industry.

Robotics and the Internet of Things are the most commonly used technologies among Spanish companies. They make it possible for these companies to improve comprehensive management of work processes, automate tasks, or to obtain greater profitability from the massive amounts of data collected every day. They are also one of the revealing assets to apply improvements and optimize processes.

In the framework of this health crisis and the digital transformation of society and economy, Fundación Telefónica has published a report on Digital Society in Spain 2020-2021. This document gathers all the changes in technological habits, the speeding-up of digitization and the evolution towards a more connected society that uses the net more frequently for work and for fun.

This study highlights how data infrastructures and mobile technology have contributed to the implementation of 5G, as well as the improvement in telecommunications to meet the needs of homes and companies. Thanks to this situation, Spain is now the second European country to have digitized public services, making it easier to interact with the Public Administration through the net.

Progress in the use of artificial intelligence in Spain aimed at managing data and creating predictive models has allowed the Ministry of Health to rely on technological companies to predict the spread of coronavirus or even to make estimates about vaccination and immunization of the population.  

 

Business digitization: technology and social changes

One relevant piece of information about Digital Transformation collected by reports on business digitization and the use of networks is that this pandemic has sped up digital introduction by 5 years. That is, changes and technological habits that both companies and the general public have had to adopt since March 2020 have led us to a business and social digitization level expected by 2025.

This accelerated digitization process has entailed a number of challenges, such as fostering inclusiveness and digital literacy of every social group, or even boosting investment in technology among SMEs so they can become more competitive and profitable. It also brings along great opportunities for the R&D field – in order to develop new telecommunication solutions allowing for network improvement – and prospective markets in which entrepreneurs can create new businesses related to business digitization – such as cybersecurity services, robotic development or tailored SaaS development for different kinds of companies.
